Character Bio: Tom Hanks portrays a Federal Express executive who is consumed with time; days, hours, minutes, even the seconds of his daily life seem to push him forward. His time fixation takes a toll on his personal life. While on his way to correct a "time problem" at a Federal Express office that can't seem to deliver fast enough, his plane crashes. Suddenly all time stops. Hanks' character survives, but is trapped on a deserted island without so much as a watch. The audience watches a man transformed from a time-obsessed executive to a survivor searching for a way home. Hanks grabs the audience's hearts with his strong, charismatic performance of human nature and the basics of survival. With his character in almost every shot, it might be just what's needed to send Mr. Hanks back up to the podium for another Academy Award.
