Character Bio: In "Chocolat." Juliette Binoche plays Vianne Rocher, a unusual woman who whisks into a sleep French town in the later '50s with her daughter. Vianne, wearing bright colors and red high heels, opens a chocolate shop. Her self-confidence and sinful treats shake up the small town. Her chocolates not only delight her patrons, but seem to transform those around her - liberating them. Binoche's Vianne has a gift for knowing what each customer needs to brighten their life and expand their possibilities. She not only brings tasty treats to the town, she also brings a new view and fresh breath of air to a town that has too long stuck with it's traditions. Not everyone appreciates what Vianne brings to town; Count Reynaud tries to run her out of business and out of town. Vianne is bolstered by Roux, a drifter, and Armande, her landlady. The Academy Award-winning actress spent time learning the art of chocolate making for her role as Vianne.

"Crowe was not being rewarded for his performance in Gladiator, but rather his LAC, Insider, and Gladiator put together. Tom Hanks is going to win the oscar next year for Road to Perdition, Sam Mendez is no fluke. If you wanna whine about something winning that didn't deserve it, complain about Gladiator for best picture. Traffic wins oscars for directing, screenplay, and editing, not to mention del toro's for supporting actor and the SAG award for best ensemble. Why vote for Gladiator over Traffic when it wins the other awards? "
