Synopsis: Gladiator takes the country back to the golden era of movies, when epics where big and the stars were even bigger. The story is about love, war, deceit, murder, slavery and revenge, played out with a cast of thousands. The story follows Maximus, played by Russell Crowe, a great war general who has just helped to extend the Roman Empire to the north. Despite all the reward and honor bestowed to him by the emperor, the only thing he wishes to do is return to his family. The emperor's son, Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), is jealous of Maximus, which drives him to kill his father. The unstable Commodus becomes Caesar and orders the execution of Maximus and his family. Maximus escapes and is enslaved. Gladiator follows Maximus as he is forced into the ring to fight for his life. As a gladiator, he regains the glory he lost and gets his revenge. Maximus easily contends with the opponents he faces in the rings and is soon brought to Rome so he can fight in the Coliseum in front of Caesar. He hatches a plan to win back his freedom and revenge his familyıs death while bringing the Republic of Rome back. This movie is filled with action, but still has the elements of drama that make it great.
