Character Bio: In "The Contender," Jeff Bridges plays a strong-willed Democratic president who caused a stir when he nominated a woman to be his vice president. The pragmatic President Jackson Evans' choice brings opposition on all sides and leads to a showdown on Capitol Hill. Evans reasons for choosing Sen. Laine Hanson, and sticking with her through out character assignation and political attacks are murky. Evans seems simple but manipulates situations to show his power and position. Bridges makes sure that the audience sees that Evans has an agenda but doesn't quite reveal it.
