Character Bio: In "Pollock," Marcia Gay Harden plays Lee Krasner, an artist who puts her own career on hold after falling in love with Jackson Pollock. She initially seeks him out to meet him, claiming she has met all the expressionists except him. She takes the lead in their relationship both professionally and romantically. Pollock is shy around women and Krasner takes the initiative by undressing when his back is turned looking for cigarettes. She sees the brilliance in his work and realizes he lacks the drive to promote it. She becomes his biggest advocate, promoting his work while putting her own on the back burner. She eventually marries Pollock and supports him through his troubles and self-indulgent, destructive behavior until his death. Harden portrayed Krasner not as a martyr, but as a direct woman doing what she wants to do.
